Yes, you can hire a car for just the months in between. Short-term hire runs from around one month, so if your new car is on a factory order, you have sold your old one, or an insurer has written it off, you can cover the gap without signing a multi-year agreement for a car you only need for a season.
- No credit check to get a quote
- Flexible terms, 1 to 48 months
- All credit welcome

Very few people plan a gap between cars. An order slips by three months, a buyer turns up sooner than expected, or a write-off settles faster than the replacement arrives. Whatever caused it, the problem is the same: you need something reliable now, and you do not want to commit to three or four years to solve a three-month problem. That is exactly what short-term hire is for. You tell us roughly how long the gap is and what you need the car to do, and we look for the partner who can cover it.
How long can I have it for?
Terms typically start at around one month and run up to 48. Most people bridging a gap take somewhere between three and twelve months, which is long enough to be practical and short enough that you are not paying for a car after your own arrives.
Because nobody knows a delivery date to the day, tell the partner what you are waiting on and how firm the date is. It is much easier to agree a sensible term up front than to unpick a long one later, and the partner will tell you exactly what happens if your car turns up early or late before you agree anything.
What if my new car arrives sooner than expected?
Ask about this before you sign, because the answer varies by partner and by term. Some are comfortable with a rolling arrangement or a short notice period; others price a fixed term more keenly and charge to end it early. Neither is wrong, they are different products, and which one suits you depends entirely on how certain your delivery date is.
We will tell the partner up front that you are bridging a gap, because it changes what they should quote you. If your date is genuinely uncertain, say so and ask for flexibility rather than the lowest monthly figure.
Is it better than a daily rental?
For a few days, no, use a daily rental. Beyond about a month the economics usually flip: monthly hire is normally a good deal cheaper per day than a rolling daily rate, and you get the same car throughout rather than whatever is on the forecourt that morning.
Delivery is available through partners, and the car is insured, taxed and maintained under the terms your partner sets out, so it behaves much more like a car of your own for the period you have it.

Common questions
How quickly can I get a car?
It depends on the partner and what you are after, something mainstream is usually far quicker to place than a specific trim in a specific colour. Tell us your date and we will look for a partner who can actually meet it rather than one who cannot.
What is the shortest term available?
Around one month. Below that a daily rental is normally the better and cheaper answer, and we will say so rather than sell you something that does not fit.
Can I change the car partway through?
Sometimes, depending on the partner and the agreement. It is worth raising at the quote stage if you think your needs might change, a partner who knows that up front can price for it.
Do I need to say what I am waiting for?
It helps. Knowing whether you are covering a firm eight-week order or an open-ended wait changes what a partner should offer you, and it saves you being quoted a fixed term that does not suit.
