When short-term rental makes sense

Rental is the right tool when your need has an end date, or an unknown one: a gap between cars, a fixed-term job, a few months in a new city, or trying a car before you commit. You keep it as long as you need and hand it back when you're done. It costs more per month than a long lease, and that's the trade-off for the flexibility.

How long can you rent a car for?

Terms run from about one month up to 48. The longer you commit, the lower the monthly, so the question is really how certain you are about how long you need it.

1 month
The shortest term most partners will write. Right for a gap between cars, an insurance write-off, a job that starts before your own car arrives, or trying a model before you commit to anything longer. It carries the highest monthly of any term, because the partner is pricing for the risk of a short, uncertain let.
3 months
The point where the monthly starts to come down. It suits a fixed-term contract, a season of work, or a move where you are not yet sure where you will settle. Long enough that partners treat it as a proper let rather than an extended rental.
6 months
A sensible middle. You get a meaningfully lower monthly than a one-month let, and you are still not committed to a year. Common for contractors, people between permanent moves, and anyone waiting on a factory order.
12 months
Close to the keenest monthly available on a flexible agreement. It suits a settled situation that might still change: a new job in a new area, a year before you decide whether to buy, or a contract that runs roughly a year.
18 to 48 months
The longer terms. The monthly is lower again, and the trade-off is commitment, so this only makes sense when you are confident the need will last. Beyond this you are into conventional contract hire, which is a different product with a different decision behind it.

Every term is subject to the partner's own terms and availability, and the monthly is confirmed by them before anything is agreed.

Can you get any make or model?

Listings show what we can look to source, not live stock. As an introducer we can’t guarantee a particular make, model, specification, term or start date will be available when you apply, and some vehicles are pre-order or reservation only. Nothing is reserved for you until a partner confirms it. If we can’t get the exact vehicle you’ve asked for, we’ll say so and find you the closest alternative we can.

Short-term car rental: common questions

Can I rent a car for just one month?

Yes. We match you to a partner who rents month to month, so a one-month rental with no long tie-in is straightforward, and you can extend if you need to.

How much does short-term car rental cost?

It depends on the car, the length and your mileage. Short-term rental is priced higher per month than a long lease because it is flexible. Prices shown are a guide, and your matched rental partner confirms the exact figure before anything is agreed.

Do I need good credit to rent short-term?

It helps but it isn't the gatekeeper it is for finance. Short rentals are judged on affordability now, so all credit is welcome, and getting a quote involves no credit check.

What is the difference between rental and leasing?

Rental rolls month to month with no long commitment, but costs more per month. Leasing is cheaper per month but ties you in for years. Match the product to how long you actually need the car.

Are you the rental company?

No, we're an introducer. We match you to a suitable UK rental partner and we're upfront about who that is. The agreement is between you and them.
