Not everything needs a long commitment. Sometimes you know you need a car for roughly half a year and no more — while a house move settles, over a busy work contract, or as a stop-gap after an accident or write-off. A six-month hire gives you a proper car for that window and then a clean hand-back, rather than trapping you in a multi-year agreement you would still be paying off long after the need had gone.
When six months is the right call
Choose it when the need has a rough shelf life: a fixed-term job, a few months before you buy, covering a sudden gap when your own car is off the road, or testing whether a particular size or fuel type actually fits your life before committing for longer. If you already know you will want the car for a year or more, a 12-month hire usually carries a lower monthly.
Fast to arrange, judged on affordability
Because there is no drawn-out finance application, a short hire is quick to set up — the limiting factor is usually just getting the right car to you. And like all our hire, it is judged on whether the monthly is affordable now rather than on your credit history, so a thin file or a past CCJ or default is far less of a barrier than it would be for finance.

Yes — our suppliers focus on flexible terms from around six months up to 36. For a settled year or more, a longer term brings the monthly down.
Can I extend at the end if I need to?
Often, yes — tell the supplier and, subject to availability, a short hire can usually be extended or rolled into a new agreement.
Will a short term cost more per month?
Sometimes slightly, because the supplier has less certainty than on a longer term. The trade-off is flexibility — you are only committed for the months you actually need.
