Vehicle hire for a brand-new business

Yes — a brand-new business with no trading history can hire a car or van. Short-term rental is judged on affordability and ID, not years of filed accounts, so a company that was registered last week can still get moving. Getting a quote involves no credit check.

Updated August 2026

Traditional vehicle finance wants two or three years of accounts before it will talk to you — which is no use when you have just registered at Companies House and need a van on the road this week. Short-term hire works differently: our rental partners look at what the business can comfortably afford now, not how long it has existed.

Why is hire easier than finance for a new company?

Finance underwrites the whole value of the vehicle over years, so it leans heavily on trading history. A rolling 6–36 month hire only ever exposes the partner to a few months at a time, so the bar is lower: typically proof the business exists, a director ID, and evidence you can meet the monthly cost. That makes it realistic for start-ups, sole traders who have just incorporated, and businesses still waiting on their first set of accounts.

Car or van, one vehicle or a small fleet

Whether you need a single small van for deliveries, a tidy car for client visits, or two or three vehicles as you take on staff, we match you to a partner who covers that. Pricing is shown per month so you can put it straight into a cash-flow forecast, and terms stay flexible so you are not committed while the business is still finding its feet.

What you will usually need

Expect to provide the company name and registration number (or evidence of sole-trader status), a director or owner ID, and basic proof of affordability. Exact requirements are set by the supplying partner and confirmed before anything is agreed — we tell you who that partner is up front.

Common questions

Can a company with no accounts yet hire a vehicle?

In many cases yes. Because hire is short-term and affordability-led, partners can often help businesses that were registered recently and have no filed accounts. The check is lighter than vehicle finance.

Is this a lease or finance agreement?

No. This is short-term rental — you are hiring the vehicle, not buying it on finance. There is no long credit agreement and we are an introducer, not the rental company or a lender.

Do you run a credit check on the business?

Not to give you a quote. Any checks are run later by the supplying rental partner, with your permission, and are typically lighter than finance underwriting.

Can I claim the cost against the business?

Short-term business hire is often treated as an operating cost — but tax treatment depends on your circumstances, so confirm with your accountant. We can only speak to the hire itself, not your tax position.
